Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer
Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) uses the Temporary Internet Files feature to store copies of Web content on the local hard drive. This feature improves network performance but can fill the hard drive with large amounts of unwanted data. IE allows many aspects of the Temporary Internet Files feature to be controlled.
Here is how to view and find Internet Explorer Temporary Files
1. Open either Microsoft Internet Explorer or the Windows Control Panel.
2. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu and choose the Internet Options... menu. In Control Panel. open the Internet Options list item. In either case, a new window titled "Internet Properties" appears.
3. In the Temporary Internet Files section of the Internet Properties window, click the "Settings..." button. A new "Settings" window appears.
4. In the "Settings" window, click the "View Files..." button. After a brief delay, a new Windows Explorer window appears. This window displays all of the Temporary Internet Files stored on the computer and their location on the local hard drive. The window also displays the URL where each temporary file came from.
Despite all these positive things about Temporary Internet Files, they have one big drawback: they compromise your privacy. Everyone with access to your computer can look into your Temporary Internet Files folder and see the sites that you have visited in the past. You can manually delete the contents of Temporary Internet Files folder but this will not erase all traces of the pages because a special file called Index.dat is placed in this folder and it will still preserve the names and even the dates of your first visits to many pages.
Temporary or junk files are kept by programs and are 95% no longer needed. They waste disk space and that may eventually slow your PC down due to the excessive search time of the hard drive. It is recommended that you clean out IE temporary files once a week from your computer, to keep the system uncluttered.
You can use Easy SystemCleaner to clean all traces from the Temporary Internet Folder.
